This event runs from 6 Sep 2013 to 30 Nov 2013 and will take place at Quilt Museum and Gallery, York. It is a Guild event being organised by BQSG.
Plans for the BQSG exhibition and catalogue are well advanced, with the final selection of items completed. As well as some stars from the Guild collection, there are some significant items from private collections, together spanning some two hundred years of patchwork and quilting. All the exhibits have been carefully selected for the fascinating tales that are there to be unpicked, stories that tell us so much about the cultural, social and historical climate in which they were made. This promises to be an exhibition with something of interest for everyone.
Events to complement the exhibition
The BQSG committee in conjunction with the Quilt Museum and Gallery are proud to announce the following events:
BQSG Study Day: Exploring Research
Saturday 26 October 2013 at the Quilt Museum & Gallery, York
Quilts can be fascinating items to study and if you have always wondered how to go about unlocking their secrets here is your chance to find out more. This is a full day workshop on how to begin quilt research. The sessions are suitable for beginners to quilt research and those wishing to gain new ideas on research techniques or who haven’t done research for a while.
On the day you will be able to learn about different approaches to studying historic and contemporary quilts and quiltmaking practice. There will be guidance on selecting a research topic, finding information, putting quilts into context and working with museums. There will also be a practical study session with the chance to examine quilts and fabrics in detail and learn how to ‘read’ a quilt. Tutorials to give individual advice on your research will also take place, as well as time to discuss your proposed or ongoing research with others.
You will also be able to visit the BQSG’s exhibition It’s All in the Making: patchwork and quilting unpicked in the Quilt Museum.
The day will be led by Isabel Dibden Wright, previously Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, head of the research panel of the BQSG.
The cost of the day is £30 for Quilters’ Guild Members or £35 for non-members. This includes tea/coffee but does not include lunch. There are many cafes locally or you may bring a packed lunch. The day will run from 10.00 am to 4.00pm.
Places are limited, so please book early.
